Frequently Asked Questions

What types of scars can be treated?

Laser scar treatment is appropriate for surgical scars and acne scars on any area of the body, including the face.

Am I a good candidate for this procedure?

Laser scar treatment works on any skin type, including very light and very dark skin. We will evaluate your scars to determine whether you are a good candidate for this treatment at your Free Consultation.

How does it work?

We use a fractional laser from the company that invented and patented microfractional laser technology, Cynosure. This Laser uses “fractional” pulses of laser light to break down scar tissue and help generate healthy new tissue, light in color and more even in texture.

How long does it take?

The procedure can be performed in as little as 30 minutes, depending on the size of the treatment area.

Does it hurt?

Most people feel minimal discomfort during the laser procedure. If you are worried about the pain we can discuss pain management options with you during your Free Consultation.

How many treatments will I need?

Most people need three to five treatment sessions for optimum results.

How quickly will I recover?

People typically resume their regular activities immediately following the treatment session.

Are there any side effects?

Typical side effects include a temporary redness and swelling at the treatment site, which should last only a few days.

Laser Acne Scarring Treatment Vs. Other Options

Why do we use the LUX 1540 Laser to treat Acne Scars ?

The Palomar Icon 1540 XD/XF is the most advanced Fractional Laser resurfacing treatment system available, providing amazing results for treatment of pigmented and depressed acne scars through a series of non-ablative, minimally invasive laser treatments. Through promotion of cellular re-organization within scarred tissues, and new collagen growth, the Palomar Icon 1540 XD/XF are able to create permanent scar solutions in safe, quick sessions and with no downtime.

How is Laser more effective than other options ?

Acne scars form as the skin heals from large and inflamed pustules and papules, sometimes resulting in hyperpigmentation and/or texture irregularities. There are many treatments that claim to improve the appearance of these scars. Skin care products are the least effective of these treatments, and most patients do not find adequate results from using these products alone. Dermal fillers can create a temporary solution for depressions, but do not address tone and texture the way lasers can, and the results from laser skin resurfacing can last much longer than fillers.

How does the LUX 1540 differ from CO2 or Ablative treatment options ?

The Laser Skin Resurfacing treatments provided at Everyoung Medical Spa are different from other options in that our treatments create just as powerful results but the full effect usually takes 3-6 treatments to be seen. The reason for this is we treat these scars without removing the top layer of your skin – which is what causes that swollen red look that you can see with ablative laser procedures and peels. Rather, the gradual and natural results you’ll see starting from your very first treatment with the LUX 1540 will leave you looking powerfully rejuvenated over time, without having to go through weeks of painful downtime.

What about downtime ?

Erbium lasers are less invasive than CO2 Lasers, and because most of our patients do not want to spend a week or two in recovery from their laser treatment, erbium laser is usually the treatment we recommend. The Palomar Icon 1540 XD/XF is an erbium laser system. However, we do also provide CO2 Laser, at the patient’s request.
